About the Event
The "Climate litigation in Belgium and beyond" workshop, hosted by the Belgian Climate Centre, took place in Brussels on 11 September 2024. This event marked the first in a series of "science for climate action" thematic workshops, bringing together academics, practitioners, public and private decision-makers, and civil society representatives to discuss key climate justice issues both in Belgium and internationally.
Throughout the day, participants examined major climate cases currently before the courts, explored the variety of legal actions being pursued, discussed the role of scientific evidence in trials, considered questions around the separation of powers, and evaluated the broader impact of these cases beyond the courtroom.
The scientific programme was jointly developed by Professors Charles-Hubert Born (UCL), Hendrik Schoukens (UGent), Emmanuel Slautsky (ULB) and Romain Weikmans (ULB).
