Presenter: Laura Van Poelvoorde (Sciensano)


Biography: Laura Van Poelvoorde is a scientist at Sciensano, where she works in the service Transversal Activities in Applied Genomics, specializing in pathogen detection and wastewater surveillance. She is actively involved in several high-impact projects, including EU-WISH, a European initiative to strengthen wastewater surveillance across Europe, and CLIMPATHIC, an international project funded by the Institut Pasteur, which focuses on the detection of emerging pathogens in wastewater in Europe and Belgium. Her work also includes leading national initiatives such as CoVWWSurv for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance and developing advanced molecular methods through projects like COVIDDIVER, DIGICOVID, and DIGICOVID_VAR.
