Media Training Programme
Science needs to be heard, not just published.
At the Belgian Climate Centre, our mission extends beyond facilitating research; we are dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and societal awareness. In a world facing a climate emergency, the demand for reliable, accessible, and factual information is higher than ever.
However, translating complex data into clear narratives is a distinct skill. That is why we have launched an ambitious Media Training Programme designed to empower our network of 450+ scientists to become effective, confident communicators.
Why Media Training Matters
Climate science can be complex, involving uncertainties and intricate data sets. Without proper communication tools, there is a risk of misinterpretation, oversimplification, or the spread of misinformation.
Our programme aims to equip researchers with the tools to:
-
Translate complexity: Turning technical research into impactful stories using analogies and clear language.
-
Master the interview: Delivering key messages effectively for TV, radio, and print.
-
Navigate difficult conversations: Addressing uncertainty and controversy with confidence.
-
Understand the media landscape: Working effectively with journalists' deadlines and formats.
A Growing Network of Media-Ready Experts
Our approach goes beyond theory. Participants step out of their labs to practice directly in front of the camera and microphone, guided by professional science communicators.
Through these intensive simulations, our experts build the confidence to bridge the gap between academic rigour and public engagement, ensuring that the voice of science is heard clearly in the climate debate.
Information for Journalists
Are you covering current events, extreme weather, or long-term climate trends? The Belgian Climate Centre can connect you with the right voice for your story.
Our trained experts are prepared to answer your questions with clarity and accuracy, bridging the gap between academic research and your audience.
Information for Scientists
Are you a member of the BCC network? Do you want to improve your communication skills and increase the impact of your research?
We organise two sessions per year (one in French and one in Dutch). These small-group workshops (max 12 people) provide a safe environment to practice interviews and receive personalized feedback.
How to participate: All experts listed in the BCC catalogue will be informed directly by email as soon as registration opens for the next session. So stay tuned!
