Effective climate action relies on a seamless exchange between scientific research and its practical application. In 2025, the Belgian Climate Centre acted as a bridge between these two worlds. We are delighted to present our Annual Report, which looks back on a year dedicated to fostering collaboration across the Belgian scientific landscape.
A year of consolidation and dialogue
As highlighted in the foreword, 2025 unfolded in a challenging context, making our mission to strengthen the impact of research on decision-making more relevant than ever. Our priority was to create dedicated spaces where researchers could share insights and build interdisciplinary ties.
Key highlights from the year include:
Connecting experts: We launched two major scientific synthesis projects and established our monthly ‘Climate Cookies & Coffee’ seminars, which have quickly become a valued forum for the community.
Translating science into action: Through our ‘Science for Climate Action’ workshops, we facilitated direct dialogue between researchers and diverse stakeholders on pressing issues, such as the resilience of food systems and managing urban heatwaves.
Supporting the next generation: Our community for Early-career researchers continues to grow, now connecting over 175 members across the country.
Looking ahead to 2026
Beyond detailing our past activities, this report outlines the strategic direction for the coming year. 2026 will be defined by two major milestones: the anticipated deployment of the Belgian Climate Data Portal and our biennial ‘Belgian Science For Climate Action’ conference.
We extend our gratitude to our partners (BELSPO, RMI, universities, and federal institutes). As we move into 2026, we remain focused on the practical value of this collaboration: ensuring that scientific insight effectively reaches the heart of climate decision-making.
