The Belgian Climate Centre (BCC) is looking for a Head of Service to lead its team and advance its mission at the crossroads of climate research, policy and society.
Established in 2021 as a federal scientific centre of excellence, the BCC strengthens climate research across federal scientific institutions, facilitates the transfer of knowledge to policymakers and citizens, and develops climate services grounded in Belgian climate scenarios. It is integrated within the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium.
The role
As Head of Service, you will define and implement the Centre's strategic direction, manage a multidisciplinary team of currently eight staff members, and represent the BCC vis-à-vis federal and regional authorities, international institutions, the media and the broader public. You will also represent the Centre on the federal Scientific Council on Climate, for which the BCC provides the permanent secretariat.
The position covers six areas of responsibility: scientific leadership, team management, external communication and stakeholder relations, governance and reporting, financial management, and representation on the Scientific Council on Climate.
Profile
Candidates hold a master's degree and bring at least five years of management experience together with a minimum of four years in climate research or a field relevant to the climate transition. A strong strategic vision, proven leadership skills and effective communication are essential. Functional proficiency in French or Dutch is required, with a good working knowledge of the other national language. English is an asset.
